Itās finally here ā Varsity 2025, and this year, the showdown between the University of Lincoln and the University of Hull is happening right here on our home turf. Campus is buzzing, banners are flying, and letās be honest⦠weāre all thinking the same thing:
Lincoln is winning today. Again.
Varsity is the biggest sporting rivalry of the year for University of Lincoln students. Itās more than just a set of matches ā itās a full-on university face-off that pits us against Hull across everything from football and netball to dodgeball, rowing, cheer, and even eSports.
Weāve dominated Varsity since 2017, and today weāre going for our ninth consecutive win. The trophy hasnāt left our hands in nearly a decade ā and based on todayās fixtures and team energy, itās not going anywhere.
Letās talk about the real heart-racers on todayās Varsity schedule. These arenāt just your average university matches ā these are where rivalries peak, crowds erupt, and bragging rights are earned.
Played on home soil at Riseholme and the Sports Centre, Lincolnās football squads are looking sharp this season. The menās team is hungry after a narrow win last year, while the womenās side has had a phenomenal run in BUCS fixtures. Weāre calling it: 2ā0 to Lincoln, both matches.
This oneās always tense ā last yearās match was decided by just two points. But this season Lincolnās 1st team has depth, pace, and some seriously smart playmakers. Hullās bringing size⦠but Lincolnās got strategy. Expect fireworks ā and expect a win.
Lincolnās eSports team might not get the same crowd as Football, but theyāve quietly built a fortress in the digital world. With Varsity now including games like Valorant and Rocket League, we think Lincolnās going to rack up some early wins here before Hull even warms up.
Okay ā not technically about points, but this is one of the loudest and proudest parts of Varsity. Lincolnās cheerleaders have turned every Engine Shed halftime show into a full-blown event this year. Expect energy, skill, and a standing ovation.
Weāre not just being biased (well, maybe a bit). There are actual reasons why University of Lincoln will win Varsity 2025:
Home advantage: Being on campus, surrounded by thousands of Lincoln supporters, makes a huge difference ā not just in morale, but momentum.
The streak: 8 years unbeaten. That confidence feeds into the team psychology. Hullās walking into a lionās den.
Squad depth: Lincolnās not just good at the headline sports ā weāve got solid teams in fencing, volleyball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and dodgeball. This yearās event covers over 25 sports and 80+ fixtures ā and weāve built squads to win across the board.
Itās been building all week ā but today, Lincoln has fully transformed. Thereās yellow and blue face paint, boom boxes blaring team chants, pop-up merch stalls selling limited-edition Varsity 2025 tees, and the kind of crowd noise you normally hear at professional games.
Even if youāre not playing today, youāre part of it. Thatās the point of Varsity.
If tradition stands, the trophy presentation will happen after the final fixture late this afternoon ā likely around 5:30āÆpm at the Sports Centre. After that? Everyoneās heading to the Engine Shed for the Varsity Afterparty (free with your ticket, by the way), where the only thing louder than the music will be Lincoln fans celebrating nine years undefeated.
Hullās bringing energy, but Lincolnās bringing history, home support, and a fire thatās been building since last yearās final whistle.
So whether youāre competing, cheering, or just here for the afterparty ā soak it all in. This is your uni pride, your chance to be part of something huge. And when the final scores are in?
Weāll be chanting the same thing we always do:
WE. ARE. LINCOLN. šš
