Here are the official University of Hull term dates for the 2026-27 academic year, straight from the university.

How Hull Structures Its Year

Before diving into the dates themselves, it's worth knowing that the University of Hull does not use a traditional two-semester system. Instead, it runs a trimester model, dividing the academic year into three teaching and assessment blocks. Each trimester has its own rhythm of teaching weeks, a break, and then an assessment period. It's a slightly different structure to many other UK universities, and it's worth getting familiar with it early so you're not caught off guard by when your exams actually land.

Trimester 1: 21 September 2026 - 31 January 2027

The academic year kicks off with Welcome Week from 21 to 25 September 2026. If you're a new student, this is the week you'll move in, meet your housemates, explore campus, and attend induction events. It's also the week most students pick up their keys from their letting agent, so make sure your tenancy start date lines up with this window.

Formal teaching begins on 22 September and runs all the way through to 18 December 2026, giving you a solid twelve weeks of lectures, seminars, and tutorials before the Christmas break.

The winter break runs from 21 December 2026 to 10 January 2027. That's just over three weeks off, which is enough time to head home, recharge, and come back ready for the assessment period. Assessment then takes place from 11 to 22 January 2027, so January is very much an exam month rather than a relaxed return to campus. Plan accordingly.

Trimester 2: 1 February 2027 - 30 May 2027

Teaching resumes on 1 February 2027 and continues through to 7 May 2027, with a spring break built in from 22 March to 4 April 2027. This two-week break coincides roughly with Easter, giving students a chance to travel or focus on revision ahead of the second assessment block.

Assessments for Trimester 2 run from 10 to 28 May 2027. For most undergraduate students, this is the most significant exam period of the year, so the stretch from April through to the end of May tends to be the most intensive on the calendar.

Trimester 3: 31 May 2027 - 5 September 2027

Trimester 3 is where Hull's calendar differs most noticeably from a traditional university structure. Teaching runs from 31 May to 6 August 2027, and not all students will be required to attend. Trimester 3 is primarily relevant for students on courses with placements (such as nursing, education, or health sciences), postgraduate students working on dissertations across multiple terms, and those who need to sit resits.

Resit assessments take place from 9 to 20 August 2027. If you're not on a course that requires summer attendance, this is effectively your long summer break.

2027 Bank Holidays

No teaching takes place on bank holidays, and some university facilities such as cafés and the library may have reduced hours. Key dates to be aware of in 2027 will be confirmed by the university, but as a general guide, Good Friday, Easter Monday, the Early May bank holiday, Spring Bank Holiday, and the late August bank holiday all fall within the academic year and typically affect on-campus services.
